Las Chicas celebrate the Supreme Court’s fantastic ruling among 100,000 people at Barcelona’s Gay Pride Parade.
Combination Catalan/Rainbow flags greet us outside the Metro station.
Parade organizers encouraged everyone to wear purple as a symbol against bullying of gays and lesbians. As you know, one color is sooooooo limiting especially with the rainbow flag as our main symbol. Many people wear multiple colors, in a variety of patterns, along with glitter, sequins, feathers, leather, and sometimes simply body paint.
Our parade-watching group includes colleagues from Lisa’s school and Holly’s dad, who had just arrived that morning from Iowa.
Holly, Alex, Lisa, Mary, Kathy. Thanks Cleave (Holly’s dad) for the photo!
Enjoy the parade photos below featuring lesbian moms and golden fairies, Modernist apartment buildings, and check out the 43-second video at the end!
Post-parade restorative drinks and tapas at our favorite Poble Sec tapas bar:
No Barcelona parade, gay or otherwise, would be complete without some Catalan drumming:

We went to Blai 9, but the food tasted better in the winter that it did last weekend. Now there are too many mystery bits of fried “fusion” tapas and too many tourists.
